Things to See and Do in Arenal den Castell

Our photo tour will show many of these attractions and their locations.

Arenal den Castell is the fourth largest resort on Menorca and is in the eastern side of Menorca where most attractions are located.

Bad Weather days

On cloudier or rainy days you could look at the following or visit Mahon on bus ( ten pin bowling at OCI centre,Museums,Shopping ). If you have a hire car there is much more.

The 'Goody Goody Park' on the corner of the beach has a selection of indoor amusement games, bouncy castles, small pool with waterslides, ball pits, bowling, crazy golf, bumper cars, and trampolines and all things to brighten the eyes of children and to keep them amused. Parents can enjoy a drink in the covered seating areas and have an eye open on them, but still "relax".

Shopping

Arenal has limited shopping but an easy bus ride to Mahon will provide lot's of boutiques to explore. In Arenal there are several supermarkets selling swim/beach wear, inflatables as well as holiday goods and souvenirs. A clothing boutique and perfumerie is at Coves Noves

Na Macaret

Na Macaret is a relaxed fishing village on the coast with terrific views out to the north coast bays and Port Addaia and lots of boats-something for those looking to find authentic Menorca by the sea. A pleasant sandy beach forms the centrepiece of Na Macaret with Bar Restaurant at its rear.

Still active with fisherman and more authentically Menorca the local bars and restaurants ( four around the central plaza ) cater to locals with good value fish dishes. Small mini supermarket.

Es Mercadal

Es Mercadal is a small town in the centre of the island, with rustic whitewashed houses lining pretty narrow streets. It lies at the base to Monte Toro, Menorcas' highest 'mountain' (357 m). On top there are viewing areas and a small pleasant cafeteria with small outside terrace. From up here there are excellent views of the whole island - upto the bay at Fornells ,the northern coast and the rolling hills of the island's centre.

Menorca Tips

Es Mercadal is also a Gastronomy and Restaurant oasis, with a range from simple to fine dining but the quality in every price range is very good. "Centre Artesanal de Menorca" is located here too and is the crafts center of Menorca showcasing traditional and comtemporary crafts.

Alaior

This is a great town for wandering early mornings or late evenings when the extreme heat of summer sun has gone. The "third" capital of the island and a cultural centre. The old town is very pretty and makes a great change to the beach, with a good mix of little shops to browse, Cafes, Bars and Restaurants. There are several clothes and shoe boutiques offering original items not chain store repetition. Childrens playground on the pretty town square (next to ice cream cafes!). Alaior has a weekly market plus an evening market with jewellery , other handicrafts and small boutiques.

Menorca Tips

Alaior is home to the Pons Quintana shoe factory shop. An name relatively unknown in the UK because most of its high quality leather shoes are exported to France and Germany. At the factory shop you will see reduced prices on beautiful high quality shoes and leather goods.

Playa den Fornells

Not to be confused with Fornells ( village ) , Playas den Fornells ( Platages de Fornells) is a self contained designer created set of 3 dedicated holiday areas/villages. An impressive and very natural beach ( Cala Tirant ) which is very safe for children with shallow sandy bottoms - Buses to/from Fornells, Son Parc and Arenal D'en Castell. Clean clear warm waters make the area ideal for snorkelling with good local facilities for wind surfing and other water sports. The 'villages' are set in architectural collections on the hill sides overlooking the bay with communal pools and gardens of tropical plants adding to the atmosphere.
