Cala Blanca - Location

Cala Blanca is located on the west coast 5km south of Ciutadella. Approximately 40-50 mins., from the Airport. Cala Blanca resort lies between the southern side of a long a turquoise inlet which ends in the beach at Cala Santandria and a smaller inlet to the south which ends in the beach, known as Playa Cala Blanca . Depending on your accommodation location your nearest beach will be at Cala / Playa Santandria or Playa Cala Blanca - see interactive maps.

Transfers

Public buses are not practical for transfer from Airport ( you must always change at Mahon bus station ) so you will need either a shared or private transfer, Taxi or Hire Car. West coast resorts are often best via a transfer rather than Taxi due to costs - taxi circa 60-70 Eur one way. We recommend shuttle menorca.

Menorca tips - note despite the apparent many offers in Internet there are only three licensed companies who actually provide the service on Menorca, so ensure you know who you are booking with before paying.

Overview

A more recently established resort it comprises a couple of hotels at it's sourthen end (many more in the mid and northern area ) ,but further from the larger Playa Cala Blanca beach ) along with many private villas apartments and residental homes. Both beaches are of fine sand gently shelving into the shallow waters that are protected by rocky sides of long attractive inlets so typical of the west coast. Close to the charming former capital of the island, Ciutadella. This can be a confusing area based on tour operators descriptions and the fact that Sa Caleta,Cala Santandria and Cala Blanca with their respective beaches have now merged into each other ( particularly in some guide descriptions! ). Be sure to check your accommodation location on a good map, to know which beach and facilities are nearest to you.

Beach

The beach at Cala Blanca has several large (for Menorca standard) beachside Cafe Bar Restaurants and childrens water chutes . A few minutes walk south of the Cala Banca beach is a small shopping area. Both beaches ( Cala Blanca and Cala Santandria) offers basic water sports facilities and equipment for hire. The other beach ( Cala Santandria ) at the northern end is smaller and a lot less developed ( dive centre ) and often visited by locals. Both offer delightful snorkelling on the inlet sides.

Shopping in Cala Blanca

Maribel is a west coast chain and they dominate the area here. There are also some smal supermarkets which also have beach and summer wear.

There is a pleasant centralised tourist area with souvenir shops and supermarkets and others located closerto the two beaches. So depending on your location you need to head north or south. Larger Supermarkets ( eg Diskont ) are on bus route to Ciutadella. Better shopping is in nearby Ciutadella. See Maps for Supermarket locations.

Cala Blanca - Must See and Do

As part of the more touristically developed west coast resorts Cala Blanca offers a range of attractions either in resort or nearby. Ciutadella is a must see especially for historical and culture fans looking for authentic Menorca. Pointing almost directly west this is a sunset watching spot!

Majorca within touching distance. On clear days ( especially springtime ) The mountains of north Majorca are very clear.

Tip A fast ferry from Ciutadella will get you there BUT you will need to stay overnight due to return times.

Ciutadella

A taste of former elegant times with fine old spanish palaces, moorish influences, a wonderful old centre and a charming little harbour. Ciutadella was the original capital of the island lying at the western edge of the island looking out to its bigger neighbour Mallorca. A superb contrast to the beach and holiday resort. Great atmosphere and shopping and a place to wander the pedestrianised old city and its many narrow streets with hidden shops and Cafe treats. Also competes with Mahon for the title of the best music bars and venues on the island. The scene for the spectacular Sant Joan festival in June, when stunning native black horses parade through the streets and the brave try to "touch the horses' heart" as it rears in front of them.
