Overview
Cala en Porter is a mixture of residential homes , Villas and Apartments with a few smaller sized hotels. It is set on the cliffs overlooking a stunning bay in a now protected nature area offering fabulous views of countryside, sands and turquoise waters. As the light fades the frogs in the nature reserve begin their soothing nightly chorus. Cala en Porter offers a variety of Bars and Restaurants to suit varying tastes. The local tourist authorities have invested in 2008 so there is now a new play area for children and the centre has a new plaza for residents and visitors enjoyment. Certainly while many of the Bars and Restaurants cater for uk tourist tastes, there are some less british places to visit. Can Bernat Restaurant just outside on the resort offers great food ( open fire grilled meats a speciality ) and an attractive terrace looking out onto the local countryside. La Vela ( good midday Tapas ) , La Paletta and Il Pulpo Restaurants are also recommended.
What distinguishes Cala en Porter is its location. Set on the plateau over a fabulous bay with terrific views of the untouched bay on the other side and the valley that extends inland from behind the beach.
Menorca Holiday Tips
There is a resort mini train to bring you back up to the town from the beach, but at 4 € per person it could even make better sense to hire a car!( 4 people =16, twice a day = 32 euros ) -small cars can be had at that price per day!
Perhaps the best english breakfast on the island ( all grilled, so not dripping in fat, and done with care) is at Pitos - a simple, but great value , menorcan cafe/bar in the centre.
Facilities
Beach
Rated as one of , if not the best resort beach on Menorca, especially for smaller children due it's perfect sands, gently sloping shallows, falling into crystal clear turquoise waters. And while this makes it very popular for children it's big enough for those who prefer to avoid the little ones to find their ideal spots too!
The beach can be reached on foot via steps, by car with free car parking under shade or a little resort train ( see picture ). At the beach front their are public toilets and a red cross/lifeguards post. There is a good selection of beachside Cafe bars and snack restaurants with decent offerings along the entire length of the promenade.
Yes many( unfit, rarely walk anywhere types) will complain about the steps to get back up from the beach, but they like everyone else adore the views from below and above. Some things in life are worth a little effort! Plenty of pausing areas.
New in 2010 Wheel chair users have toilets and special access to the sea.

See and Do
Daytime Activities
The beach and water is the mainstay of the day time activities and there is usually a volley ball net set up on the beach to use. Pedalos with slides and Simple Kayaks can be hired from the beach. There are childrens play areas at the beach and in the resort centre along with floodlight tennis courts for hire. Sailing is available in the nearby watersports centres of S'Algar or Fornells and golf in Son Parc is just 25 mins away. There is a new childrens play centre in the centre with a varierty of charged entertainments and small bar so the children can loose their energy on bouncy castles while mums and dads look on.
Walking and Cycling
Set in beautiful countryside, there are walks starting just outside the resort along winding walled tracks or along a path to Cales Coves. Close to Cala D'en Porter are a lot of open air prehistoric sites (e.g Torralba den Salord ), with underground caves ( So no Casana ) which give you a real sense of life all those years ago.

Calas Covas
A beautiful picturesque spot, favoured by visiting yachts and dreamers. Best visited early mornings and evenings, where the light brings out the scenery. An exciting place for youngsters, dreamy of pirates as the local burial caves up in the limestone walls and rambling cove walks let their imaginations run free. Believed to be an ancient burial ground and was in fact the very first recognised port of Menorca as used by the Romans when they occupied the island. Can be reached on foot from Cala en Porter or park and walk at Son vitamina (approx. 30 mins). Road down is NOT suitable for hire cars unless you want to pay for suspension damage!

Alaior
This is a great town for wandering early or late evenings when the heat of sun is not around. The "third" capital of the island and a cultural centre. The old town is very pretty and makes a great change to the beach, with a good mix of little shops to browse, Cafes, Bars and Restaurants. And, some great home made ice cream parlours! Childrens playground on the pretty town square (next to ice cream cafes!). Alaior has a weekly market plus an evening artisans market with jewellry and other handicrafts and clothing.
Menorca Tips
Ladies Alaior is home to the Pons Quintana shoe factory shop. An name relatively unknown in the UK because most of its high quality leather shoes are exported to France and Germany. At the factory shop you will get heavily reduced prices on beautiful high quality shoes.
Arenal den Castell, Son Parc, Son Bou, & Cala en Porter selfcaterers - Visit the larger supermarkets here at the Poligno ( commercial area ) for a much better food and price selection.
