Overview
Es Canutells is a mixture of residential homes, private holiday villas and a large but lowrise apartment hotel complex. Located between the resorts of Binibeca and Cala den Porter this is a perhaps destination for those seeking a relaxed, uncommercialised resort.
The resort is located on one side of an attractive inlet bay with a sandy beach. While Es Canutells is itself rather quiet and more for relaxtion there are lots more on offer within a short (car/bus journey) distance.
It is recommended to have a hire car if staying here or maybe that's just what you want - quiet and to not move from the lounger!
The Grupotel Mar de Menorca is the only Hotel in this location. A lively self contained holiday complex designed for families.
Sant Climent is the nearest town around 5-10 minutes away by car and also serviced by bus. Mahon, the capital, is only 10 minutes drive away so you're not far from a lot more to see and do if you get the desire.
Facilities
Beach
A safe and basic beach protected by attractive cliffs with natural surroundings. There is small bar restaurant with views over the beach and bay.
The local authorities have been improving the beach area. NOTE that the local autorities are currently 'refurbishing' the beach as a major project. So there might be no access until 2011, when it should look very nice ( we have taken a look! )
Commercial
There are a handful of shops with everyday items catering mainly for the residential community and more focused on the holidaymaker located at the Aparthotel.
Banks, chemist, bakers, Cafes and supermarket along with very good restaurants can be found in the nearby town of San Climent. Buses will also take you to the capital Mahon. 20 minutes drive or so along the coast is S'Algar a favourite water sports and diving centre.

See and Do
Some of Menorcas' famous under water caves at nearby Cap D'en Font make this a good base for keen divers. And for the less enthusiastic divers there is good snorkelling just off the beach. If you fancy something a little bit more wild there is a very pretty virgin cove and beach ( Cala Biniparratx ) just up the coast westwards-follow the coast road to Binidali. A small limestone gorge with cut out caves near the beach.
Menorca Holiday Tips
There is one of the island most respected restaurant Es Moli Foc in San Climent. Plus some fabuous quality restaurants in the pretty neighbouring villages of Torret and S'Ullastrar.
There are delightful narrow track lanes all around the north of Es Canutells to explore - even the thwack of a cricket bat on ball at the nearby Menorca Cricket Club
There are some lovely drives along idylic narrow country roads through the country side to the villages of Llucamanens and Torret. Torret is picture postcard pretty, leave the car and just walk through it. There are alo some highly regarded restaurants. Llucamances is a pretty hamlet and just a further short trip to El Grill, a favourite rustic Bar Restaurant (in old farmhouse ) on the airport access road ( you passed it as you left the airport !) where you will find some of the islands best grilled meat dishes.
Visit La Rueda Bar-Restaurant at Sant Lluis, which has a counter with nearly 3 meters of delicous Tapas.

Menorca Holiday Tip
Mahon will mostly be written on timetables, signposts as Maó it's correct local name. Also posted in the local paper Ultima Hora Menorca towards the back pages are most of the islands bus timetables. You will nearly always find a copy of this in a spanish cafe bar ( any day in season will do ) - make notes don't take paper as its there for all to read. If you are staying longer than a week take a trip on this good network and see some of the other resorts/towns first hand.Buses - Route 22 only four a day make the 25 minute trip into Mahon via Sant Climent but good value at 1.60€ one way.
A one way journey by taxi from the airport should be around 20 Euros ( check price before starting )
Cova d´en Xoroi - Cova d´en Xoroi
Web site : www.covadenxoroi.comLocated in huge spectacular natural caves some 25m above the sea at the entrance to Cala en Porter bay. Take a look at our video below for a feel of this magical place.
Cova d´en Xoroi
A double bonus. Undoubtedly the most dramatic nightspot on the island. Set high, literally in the rocks, above the sea it's an atmospheric Cafe-bar areas with fantastic sea views by day. From 19:00 the music is soothing ambient sounds to watch the sunsets by and after 23:00-dawn a disco with one of the most original locations and atmospheres with famous guest DJs. There is a entrance charge during the day which includes a voucher for a drink-It's well worth it.
Opening times: 11:30 'til dawn. Daily May to October and weekends outside of these months.
Menorca Tips
Just 200 meters from Xoroi is a great Spanish Restaurant La Palette ( Leg of lamb recommended)
Nightime Entertainment
As with most smaller resorts in Menorca, evening entertainment here is generally to be found in the resort' bars but nothing that would ever compare to the neon jungle of the popular resorts along the south coast of Majorca. Mahon and Ciutadella however offer something for everyone, but with none of the "binge drink clubbing" to be found on Ibizia and Majorca.
Check Hotel Mar de Menorca for any activities.

Mahon ( Mao Maó )
Mahon has a great mediterranean charm around the centre and harbour. Busy pavement Cafes and Bars, superb fruit and fish markets and all enclosed in a maze of narrow streets with architecture and many reminders of its Georgian past. Along the whole length of the harbour quayside (Moll de Llevant) there is an electic collection of Cafes, Bars and Restaurants for all pockets and styles. This is a great town for wandering early or late evenings when the heat of sun is not around. The "third" capital of the island and a cultural centre. The old town is very pretty and makes a great change to the beach, with a good mix of little shops to browse, Cafes, Bars and Restaurants. And, some great home made ice cream parlours! Childrens playground on the pretty town square (next to ice cream cafes!). Alaior has a weekly market plus an evening artisans market with jewellry and other handicrafts and clothing.
Menorca Tips
Ladies Alaior is home to the Pons Quintana shoe factory shop. An name relatively unknown in the UK because most of its high quality leather shoes are exported to France and Germany. At the factory shop you will get heavily reduced prices on beautiful high quality shoes.
