    Museum of Menorca

    The Museu de Menorca is set in a beautiful former monastery above the main harbour ( there is a picturesque walk way up from the harbour or via  Carrer Isabell II from city centre.)

    Permanent exhibitions of the island's early inhabitants (Talayotic, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic eras) and art from the 18th to 20th centuries. Also temporary exhibitions. Open mornings Tues. to Sun. 1000-1400 hrs., evenings Tues. to Sat. 1800-2030 hrs. Closed Mon. and public holidays. For information tel. 971 350 955.

    Menorca Tips

    There is a very pleasant walk down Carrer Isabel II ( facing you -left hand road, as you leave the main entrance) . Starting at the end furthest away from the town centre is Museu de Menorca. Also on the left hand side you will find 'hidden' passage ways with lookouts over the harbour.

    Museum Diocesa Ciutadella

    The Museu Diocesa de Menorca is set in a beautiful 17 century former baroque convent Saint Agustine with a wonderfull open courtyard at it's heart. The building alone is worth a visit.

    Permanent exhibitions of the island's early inhabitants (Talayotic eras), Contemporary painting (Pere Daura) and from the 17th to 20th centuries. Religious art and gold and silverware.

    Open in Summer Tues. to Sat. 10:30-13:30 hrs., evenings Tues. to Sat. 18:00-21:00 hrs. Free entrance on Sunday mornings (closed evening) Closed Mondays and public holidays.

    Menorca Tips

    Museum is located right in the heart of the delightful pedestrianised old city, close to the atmospheric food (fish ) markets and full of lovely side streets to wander and explore.



    Museum of Ciutadella

    The museum is located in the Sa Font Bastion, built in 1677 on cliffs alongside the port. Permanent collection from the island's first settlers, the pre-Talayotic and Talayotic cultures, the Roman and Moorish periods. The exhibition includes palaeontological remains, jewelry and everyday objects.

    Bastiò de sa Font Municipal Museum

    Permanent archaeological exhibition. Open Tues. to Sat. 1000-1400 hrs. (Entrance free on Weds.) Closed Sun., Mon. and public holidays.

    Ecomuseum - Cap de Cavalleria

    Open Air history: Roman and a pre-historic sites which are actively being explored at the tiny port of Port de Sanitja on the most northern tip of Menorca's northern coast.

    An active exhibition/archelogical centre about the natural and cultural heritage of the island. On display are archaeological materials from the excavations carried out in the harbour of Sanitja . The exhibition has been translated in six languages: Catalan, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

    Features a very impressive prehistoric Taula ( T-shaped stone )

    • Ecomuseum Opening Hours: Every day in April, May, June and October: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm. July, August and September 10:00 am – 8:30 pm .
    • General Ticket Price: 3 € for those over 8 years old. Guided visits for school groups and/or other groups with reduced price.

    Menorca Nature Centre

    This environmental information centre managed by the GOB is located in Ferreries in the heart of Menorca, which was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO

    Ethnological Museum

    Moli de Dalt , the oldest working windmill on the island, and skyline landmark of Sant Lluis contains a small museum with working machinery, utensils and exhibition items with insights into former times. Completely restored in 1987 On the ground floor of the mill are the ethnological museum rooms along with a small tourist information point.

    Spanish Palaces

    There are 11 palaces alone in Ciutadella from the time when it was the island's former capital. Several beautiful small palaces, among them Casa Saura, Palacio del Baron de Lluriach, Palace Torre Saura and Palacio Martorell, all 17th and 18th century. So many in fact that even the town hall is in a former palace. Tours and guides are available from the local tourist office opposite cathedral.

    Ciutadella Cathedral

    An impressive cathedral in the beautiful old pedestrianised old city centre. Respectfull dress only.

    Sa Hostal Quarries (Lìthica)

    Lìthica, Cami Vell km. 1. Former quarry and botanical garden circuit. Open Mon. to Fri. 0930-1430 hrs.; weekends and Public Holidays 0930 hrs. until sunset. Entrance free.

    Sant Joan de Missa Chapel

    Visits on Mon. 1600-1900 hrs. Artist Torrent s House Museum Calle Sant Rafel, 11. Fri. and Sat. 1900-2100 hrs. Entrance free.



    Island Handicrafts Center (Centre Artensal)

    Located in Es Mercadal. A centre to preserve and promote the island's traditional handicarfts (ceramics, leatherwork) . With shop, permanent exhibition area, audio visual explainations. Built for the islanders so no 'tacky' souvenir items but genuine handmade craft items.

    Open from May to October 1000-1400 hrs. and 1700-2000 hrs. (July and August 1800-2100 hrs.) Sat. throughout the year open 1000-1300 hrs. Entrance free.

    Torre de Fornells

    Early 19th century defence tower constructed by the British at Punta de sa Torre. Open Tues. to Fri. 1000-1530 hrs., Sat. and Sun. 1000-1500 hrs., closed Mon. free on Sun.

    Fort Marlborough

    Cala de Sant Esteve, Es Castell. Early 18th century fort built by the British. Open Tues. to Sat. 0930-2015 hrs., Sun. and Mon. 0930-1430 hrs. Entrance 3 euros, Sun. free.


    La Mola Fortress

    A walk through the island's history. Open daily 1000-2000 hrs. Guided tour in Spanish and English 1030 hrs. by prior booking. Audioguide tours in Catalan, Spanish, English, German and Italian.     Fortalleza de La Mola

    Is a very large 19th century fort that dominates the horizon on the entrance to Mahon harbour. The fortress of Isabel II or 'la Mola' , built between 1850 and 1875 is one of the best examples of military architecture. Built to protect the strategic harbour from the English and French, the fortress was never attacked, therefore it is in relatively good state of preservation. For a long time remained a military barracks of the spanish army, but now no longer used.

    Opening times: From June to September, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May and October, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From November to April, Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. closed Mondays. The approximate duration of the visit is 2 hours. Admission: 7 €but children under 11 FREE. Guided tours are available for individuals and groups. Individual audio-guides are available in different languages.
