is located in the south east corner of the island about 5 minutes from Mahon Airport. Around this area you will often see "Bini" used in places names reflecting the Moorish occupation (Bini means ‘belonging to the sons of…’ from Ben Arabic for son. Use the Interactive Maps link to take a tour from your PC!
Sant Climent ( also called San Climente ) is a small residential town. While small it's home to two of the islands icons to those in the know. Casino Bar Restaurant and Es Moli Foc. For self caterers it should be the first stop from the airport if you are hungry or fancy a first relaxing drink before heading off to your Villa or Apartment.
Located on the main road (ME-12) from Mahon to Cala en Porter Sant Climent is well worth a visit if you are in the area. "Famous" for Casino Bar-Restaurant (some of the best tasting/value) Menu del Dias on the island. Last shop on the right towards Cala en Porter is a traditional bakers where you can experience real bread made in real wood fired ovens in front of your eyes.
Musupta Cusi a former traditiional farmhouse which offers tapas and drinks in pleasant surroundings. Es Moli Foc ( Sant Lorec 65 ) is one of the best regarded top class cuisine restaurants on the island, with a lovely outside courtyard for summer evenings - booking essential.
There is only one commercial area - along the road that runs right through the town. Along here you find are Newsagent, Good little cafe and patisery, a chocoholics shop "Can Dulce" ( catering to the ex pats ladies chocolate addictions too! ) and a spar supermarket.
If you fancy something a little bit more wild there is a very pretty virgin cove and beach ( Cala Biniparratx - small limestone gorge with cut out caves near the beach.) on the south coast. Drive to Es Canutells, then off to Binidali then on the right hand side on the road to Cap d'en Font. There are lots of prehistoric sites-see below for details.
A beautiful picturesque spot, favoured by visiting yachts and dreamers. Best visited early mornings and evenings, where the light brings out the scenery. An exciting place for youngsters, dreamy of pirates as the local burial caves up in the limestone walls and rambling cove walks let their imaginations run free. Believed to be an ancient burial ground and was in fact the very first recognised port of Menorca as used by the Romans when they occupied the island. Can be reached on foot from Cala en Porter or park and walk at Son vitamina (approx. 30 mins). Road down is NOT suitable for hire cars unless you want to pay for suspension damage!
Plus some fabulous quality restaurants in the pretty neighbouring villages of Torret and S'Ullastrar.
There are delightful narrow track lanes all around Sant Climent to explore - even the thwack of a cricket bat on ball at the nearby Menorca Cricket Club
Sant Climent is surrounded by pretty countryside dotted with traditional farmhouses which you can explore via a network of little country roads "Camis"- Cycle hire shops is nearby Mahon - See also prehistoric sites. There is an impressive Roman Mosaic just outside the town
Buses - travel regularly to Cala en Porter ( a superb beach there ) and Mahon also to Es Canutells on the southern coast.
Located in huge spectacular natural caves some 25m above the sea at the entrance to Cala en Porter bay. Take a look at our video below for a feel of this magical place.
Cova d´en Xoroi
A double bonus. Undoubtedly the most dramatic nightspot on the island. Set high, literally in the rocks, above the sea it's an atmospheric Cafe-bar areas with fantastic sea views by day. From 19:00 the music is soothing ambient sounds to watch the sunsets by and after 23:00-dawn a disco with one of the most original locations and atmospheres with famous guest DJs. There is a entrance charge during the day which includes a voucher for a drink-It's well worth it.
Opening times: 11:30 'til dawn. Daily May to October and weekends outside of these months.
Just 200 meters from Xoroi is a great Spanish Restaurant La Palette ( Leg of lamb recommended)
Besides the mentioned Restaurants there are an english pub "The Coach and Horses", an authentic menorcan bar along the main road.
Great Music nights: Tuesday evening jazz in backrooms of the Casino Bar - It is not strictly jazz and visiting musicians (some quite famous) sit in with the resident band.
Mahon has a great mediterranean charm around the centre and harbour. Busy pavement Cafes and Bars, superb fruit and fish markets and all enclosed in a maze of narrow streets with architecture and many reminders of its Georgian past. In addition to the traditional the town offers a myriad of stylish shops and bars. Along the whole length of the harbour quayside (Moll de Llevant) there is an electic collection of Cafes, Bars and Restaurants for all pockets and styles. A spectacular setting above the huge natural harbour with ships and boats of every shape and sizes.
This is a great town for wandering early mornings or late evenings when the heat of sun is not around. The "third" capital of the island and a cultural centre. The old town is very pretty and makes a great change to the beach, with a good mix of little shops to browse, Cafes, Bars and Restaurants. And, some great home made ice cream parlours! Childrens playground on the pretty town square (next to ice cream cafes!). Alaior has a weekly market plus an evening artisans market with jewellry and other handicrafts and clothing.
Ladies Alaior is home to the Pons Quintana shoe factory shop. An name relatively unknown in the UK because most of its high quality leather shoes are exported to France and Germany. At the factory shop you will get heavily reduced prices on beautiful high quality shoes.
Arenal den Castell, Son Parc, Son Bou, & Cala en Porter selfcaterers - Visit the larger supermarkets here at the Poligno ( commercial area ) for a much better food and price selection.
