Things to See and Do in Son Parc

Son Parc is geared to relaxed holidays, with an abundance of nature on the doorstep. It it is divided up into distinct areas as shown in the map below.
Every coastal resort is part of an attractive around Menorca coastal walk - Cami de Cavalls. You will often discover swimming coves and virgin beaches. The distinctive vermillion signs will guide you.

There are several supermarkets located around the resort catering for all self catering food needs and also have basic summer clothing, inflatables and basic souvenirs. Nearby Alaior and Es Mercadal have some small boutiques and pretty little shops.

For young Children there are public play areas around the resort. Via Alaior is Menorca's only zoo.
Lloc de Menorca Zoo
Has grown into a delightful place for young and old to get close to an expanding range of native and more exotic ( smaller ) animals in very pleasant surroundings. Features several walk through landscaped enclosures where animals roam free and small children can see easily. Enough to entertain children and adult animal lovers alike.

Water Park - Arenal Den Castell
At Marina Parc hotel is also open to the public. Day tickets 20 Adult 15 (under 16 ) Euro ( 2014 ) per person.
Has lazy river, wave pool, splash pools as well as various slides and tubes with sun lounging areas. Cafeteria for drinks and snacks.

The beach is very natural ( almost virgin ) with dramatic backdrop of sand dunes. Rolling landscape and countryside wetlands surround Son Parc. As well as pristine coastline hiding some hidden bays and virgin beaches eg Cala Pudent.
Nearby Fornells is an excellent watersports and adventure location with excursions and equipment hire. Within Son Parc resort there is Kayak and small sailing dinghy hire from the western end of the beach and from Happy Menorca(2014)
The area is excellent for snorkelling as the water is very clear and part of a Marine reserve with extensive fish and sea life.
There is no dive centre in Son Parc but one in Fornells and Arenal den Castell.
Kayaking is available for more serious outings from Happy Menorca in Son Parc and from various companies in Fornells. The coastline is very attractive and almost completely undeveloped.
Son Parc Golf and Tennis
Son Parc offers the island's only 18 hole golf course set in wooded countryside complete with putting green and (floodlit) driving range. There are also tennis courts available for hire (raquets and balls can be hired at golf shop ) and Bar-Restaurant Es Bruc GOLF with outside terrace overlooking the course . Tee times can be booked in advance as can the tennis courts.
There is very good riding at Menorca Cavall near Es Mercadal or you can ride the north east coast on 3 hour excursions with EQUIMAR Centre Ecuestre Horse Riding centres on Menorca
The area enjoys woodlands and attractive farmland that reminds one of england. There are walks within Son Parc reosrt and signposted walks along the coast to the larger resort of Arenal den Castell.
From the western end of the beach you can discover the bays and virgin beaches of Cala Pudent and the hidden beaches of Fornells bay
Lots of country lanes ( Camis ) to explore as well as ride the coast line and to the nearby towns. Hire from Resort and Fornells.
Nearby to Son Parc
A watersports and restaurant favourite. The village with it's speciality seafood restaurants is located at the entrance to a huge enclosed natural bay whose protected waters make it perfect for all manner of sail based 'messing about'. More like a large salt water lake, the wind conditions here are great for beginners of anything that floats on water. Very pleasant for lunch time and evening drinks and meals alongside the harbour quay. Lot's of boat excursions and activities are based here. Perfect for a quiet authentic Menorca stay. Mountain Bike Hire. Watersports include Jetski,Waterskiing,Windsurfing, Dinghy,Kayaks and Diving.
Mahon ( Mao Maó )
Mahon has a great mediterranean charm around the centre and harbour. Busy pavement Cafes and Bars, superb fruit and fish markets and all enclosed in a maze of narrow streets with architecture and many reminders of its Georgian past. In addition to the traditional the town offers a myriad of stylish shops and bars. Along the whole length of the harbour quayside (Moll de Llevant) there is an electic collection of Cafes, Bars and Restaurants for all pockets and styles. A spectacular setting above the huge natural harbour with ships and boats of every shape and sizes.
S' Albufera Nature Reserve
S'Albufera Parc Natural - is a wonderful place for an early morning or evening walk (avoiding the summer heat) . Footpaths lead, through pleasant lakelandscapes and woodlands to the sand dunes behind the beautiful beach at Es Grau. Walk on further to the fishing village of Es Grau to enjoy beachside sunsets at the waterside Cafe Bars.
Fortalleza de La Mola
Is a very large 19th century fort at the entrance to Mahon harbour. The fortress of Isabel II or 'la Mola' , built between 1850 and 1875 is one of the best examples of military architecture. Built to protect the strategic harbour from the English and French, the fortress was never attacked, therefore it is in relatively good state of preservation.
Menorca Holiday Tip
Even if you are not into history the location is scenically great, and children will love the myriad of underground tunnels/rooms to let our energy( perfectly safe ). Great place to visit after 6p.m to enjoy atmospheric light and watch the evenings sunset over the harbour. There is a little bathing bay just before entrance and you will be see an attractive part of Menorca seldom seen by visitors.
You can get the Water Taxi from Es Castell for a special trip across harbour. ( 12 Eur pp ) you just agree a pick up time.
Opening times: July and August: from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. June to September 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May and October, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From November to April, Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. closed Mondays. The approximate duration of the visit is 2 hours. Admission: 7 Euro but children under 12 FREE. Guided tours are available for individuals and groups. Individual audio-guides are available in different languages.
