Menorca Total Eclipse 2026
On August 12 only certain places will experience a TOTAL eclipse ...Menorca will be one of them. It has been over 25 years since mainland Europe witnessed a total solar eclipse and the last time a total solar eclipse was seen in Spain was back in 1905. All of which means Holiday accommodation will be being booked well in advance!
The Sunset Eclipse will be magical on Menorca
Why? Because the eclipse happens just minutes low on the sea-level horizon before sundown (~ 8:40pm). Menorca's west coastline has miles of uninterrupted sea views.
Menorca will not plunge into darkness in the daytime as it all happens so close to sundown anyway - make it a special event with a sunset picnic / chilled cava ? It pays to get in place well in advance of the actual eclipse start.
Make sure your phones/watches are on local time!!! and protect your eyes!
August Holidays why you need to book early
So-called "eclipse chasers" are planning their journeys to Menorca meaning demand for hotels and villas will be even higher in the busiest tourist month of the year.
Eclipse Photographers - Menorca is a photographic epicenter
Because the eclipse happens so close to sunset, the scenery and lighting ( open sea and north Majorca mountains backdrop ) during the 1 hour eclipse event will be truly unique - could be one of the most beautiful eclipses in decades.
Prime Eclipse viewing spots on Menorca ?
Heads up. Palma de Majorca will be almost directly under the path -Has to be west coast of Menorca with the added horizon backdrop of the northern mountains of Majorca / Mallorca. Mid August should have settled clear skies for a once in a life-time experience.

Safety while watching the Total Eclipse
Eyesight Safety is the most important thing to consider during any solar eclipse. Looking directly at the Sun is unsafe except during the brief total phase of a solar eclipse ("totality"), when the Moon entirely blocks the Sun’s bright face, which will happen only within the narrow path of totality. Before and after totality, the only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as "eclipse glasses" or hand-held solar viewers.
