Es Grau Sa Torreta - Talayotic settlement

Descripción

The origin of the prehistoric settlement and village of sa Torreta probably dates from the Early Bronze Age (1,600 B.C.). Occupied until Roman Conquest, it was re-settled in the mediaeval Islamic era.

Only the talayot, taula enclosure and several houses have survived.

Archaeological excavations carried out have uncovered the base of a funerary naveta, built using the cyclopean technique, and the remains of talayotic houses.

Access:

Access is by the Me-7 road from Maó to Fornells: at kilometre 4.5, on the right, there is a rural path, the “camí de sa Boval”, leading to Sa Torre Blanca and Sa Torreta de Tramuntana. At the other side of the houses at Sa Torreta is the settlement.

Continuing by the estate path that leads to the beach, some 200 metres further on is a tall holm oak, and beside it, behind a dry stone wall, is the protonaveta.

Open to the general public.

The monument is within the Albufera des Grau area.
