Taxi Services and Legal

There are NO private local taxi companies on Menorca. No currently authorised Uber or Cabify services on Menorca. Only officially licensed Taxis restricted to PICKUPs in a particular region. Taxis on Menorca are all painted white and use meters which are visible. Meter shows a min. price at start plus the rate ( = 'Tarifa' day or night+fiestas ) based on time of day. At Menorca Airport all fares are posted on a column at main arrivals baggage hall exit near the Tourist Information Office. The fares are regulated each each year ( published may'ish ) but usually increase only by a little.

Taxis are licensed for FOUR passengers only by LAW (any child=1 passenger) - so you will need 2 or more for larger groups or consider private Transfers from Menorca Airport

Menorca wide prices. Fares are regulated based on distance, pick up location and other factors like day/time. Check price before starting off. Your driver should be able to give a good idea.

Don't let Taxis wait too long while you get out to do something as there is a big waiting fee ( 18+ Eur )

Mahon Airport Taxi stand Location: Arrivals ground floor. Exit, turn right walk to end of Terminal. Usually plenty, with a few minutes wait at peak times.

How easy is it to get a taxi in Menorca?

All Taxing booking methods use the SAME TAXIs which are allowed to service the area - Taxis can only pickup in their licenced/operating area, so if the limited # local taxis all busy you may have to wait.

Taxis can be requested by phone - 'Radio Taxi' and there is normally a supplement for this ( see price tables ) - Tel. +34 971367111 or +34 971482222 - english speaking operators available. You state your location and where to be picked up from.

Tip Note Radio Taxi is routed to a call centre outside Menorca. The people do not know Menorca! so be sure of your location / destination first and they will not really know the prices.

Taxi or Private Transfer service?

What is best? For distances of upto 20 km from Mahon airport Mon-Fri and max 4 passengers (any child counts as a 1 passenger ) Taxis are often the best choice ( price and speed ). If you require child seats or you might need two taxis consider a pre-booked private Transfer

Pricing is complex and local

Menorca Taxis have strict operating areas ( where they can pick up ...so waving down a taxi will not always work ). Taxi fares (tariffas) apply across menorca and are strictly regulated - metered price per kilometer with minimum charges plus () . Taxi rates increase between 21:00 - 06:00 and from 14:00 on Saturdays and Public Holidays / Fiestas .

With supplements eg Airport pick/drop off

Journeys crossing a boundary into another Taxi operating area may incur an extra charge.
