Boat Excursions - Departing Mahon harbour
Subject to weather there are half day ( Don Joan to north and south coasts) and harbour trips (Yellow Catamarans & Don Joan) taking in the historical and geographical sites of Mahon harbour. Due to the water clarity the glass bottom boats really can help you see a lot under and above the water. Trips circa 1 hour around the harbour and half day trips-see below.
Don Joan - a large modern glass bottom catamaran with 3 decks. Level 1 is submarine level in the hulls with glass panels for underwater viewing. Level 2 is the main deck with a bar selling drinks and snacks. Level 3 is the sun deck.
Half day trips along the eastern coast of Menorca departing from Mahon are also available on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9.45am and 2.30pm. Trips will go northwards to Es Grau and Isla d´en Colon ( excellent scenery) or Southwards to Binisafuller . There will be swimming stops and time to lay on a beach.
Yellow Catamarans ( 2 Boats ) - offer comentated trips around the harbour taking in the significant sights.

Menorca tip
An advance booking eg evening before will usually recieve a 10% discount.
Departures are from Mahon harbour quay side next to La Minerva cafe restaurant which serves a good scenic expresso while you wait.
An alternative around Mahon is to use the services of the local water taxi who can provide bespoke trips to sites around the harbour eg Isla del Rey and La Mola

Menorca Holiday Tips
These trips take in more bays as they as much closer than the Ciutadella port boats so bus it or drive here if you want to see more.Subject to weather there are 2 glass bottom boats making trips taking in the southern coast line and bays with it's virgin beaches upto Trebaluger/Cala Escorxada. Usually with swimming stops and an extended stay ( circa 1hr 30mins ) at one of the bays ( Son Saura or Cala 'n Turqueta ) on route. Trips circa 3.5 hours. First trip mornings is:10-13:30, second trip afternoons is: 14-17:30 note p.m itinery may be different.
Departures from Cala en Bosch marina. Both boat companies ( Amigos and Don Pancho ) travel the same route at roughly the same time for safety reasons-so pick the boat/itinery you like the best!
They might also offer a sunset trip up towards Ciutadella/ Pont den Gill as the sun sets behind Majorca's northern Mountains.

Excursions with Rib Service Companies
A 'Rib' is a lightweight open (with sunshade) rigid hulled vessel with a big outboard engine and basic fittings ie 'a seat of your pants water roadster' built for fun speed. An economic and exciting way to see the coast and because they are smaller you can get in close to sea caves and beaches.

Sea Kayaks
An increasingly popular activity and a great way to see the beautiful coastline up close is from a sea kayak. Sea Kayaks can be hired for your own trip or you can be part of a small guided tour starting at various points along the coast. Three seater kayaks are available so families can stay together. Unlike boats kayaks can get really close up to the coast line, get to unusual and interesting places including exploring sea caves and remote beaches.
Fornells bays is ideal. It's part of a Marine reserve with shallow waters so there is abundant sea life that can be seen through crystal clear waters. You can explore the bays and visit the bay's S'Aranalet beach only accessible from the water.
From Es Grau. A great place from the beach, where in shallow waters you can explore the headland and it's little hidden sandy beaches.
From Punta Prima to explore the souther eastern coastline.
From Cala en Porter to explore the beautiful bay and caves just outside the bay entrance.
Many beach resorts offer a basic kayak hire service from the beach ( approx. 12 Eur for 1 hour ). If you are looking for something a little more adventurous then take a course, guided tour as a private group or join a group on a regular tour. Or the services of a professional guide.
