Family Snorkelling

The pristine waters of Menorca are a real holiday memory. They are amazingly clear so even with just a simple snorkel you will see lots, not murky haze. And because the water is in such good condition you'll see lots of fish too. Many, many of the resort beaches have shallow sandy bottoms fringed with rocks, ideal for young snorkellers. Organised trips can make a great family day out with as a Snorkel Safari or stop off as part of a Boat excusrions. There are also marine reserves around Menorca where the marine life is even more abundent.

Snorkel Guide

This stretch of coast features wrecks and caverns.

Diving

With few currents, warm crystal clear waters, many underwater caves and coral-clad rock formations, Menorca is recognised as one of the most enjoyable dive sites in the western Mediterranean.

Cycle Route Ideas

Like most of Menorca this is more Natural, so don't expect too many cycle lanes. Better to use the off road tracks and marked routes as the little roads that make up much of the country network have lots of blind corners.

Cala en Porter is surrounded by pristine countryside criss-crossed with a network of tiny paths ( including official signed routes)  camis and of course the increasingly famous Cami de Cavalls cosatal path which runs through cala en Porter

TIP western direction of Cami de Cavalls towards Son bou is more negotitable with mountain bike than eastwards to Es Canutells.

MTB in the valley behind the beach follow cami de cavalls route but turn - right see our maps

Calas Coves ( Calas Covas )

A beautiful picturesque spot, favoured by visiting yachts and dreamers. Best visited early mornings and evenings, where the light brings out the scenery. An exciting place for youngsters, dreamy of pirates as the local burial caves up in the limestone walls and rambling cove walks let their imaginations run free. Believed to be an ancient burial ground and was in fact the very first recognised port of Menorca as used by the Romans when they occupied the island. Can be reached on foot from Cala en Porter along various paths or park and walk at Son Vitamina (approx. 30 mins). Road down is NOT suitable for hire cars unless you want to pay for suspension damage! On the Cami di Cavalls route.

Alaior

Has a charming old town set on a hill for wandering early mornings or late evenings when the extreme heat of the summer sun has gone. The "third" capital of the island and a cultural centre. The old town is very pretty and makes a great change to the beach, with some delightful Cafes, Bars and Restaurants. A few several clothes and shoe boutiques offering original items not chain store repetition. Childrens playground on the pretty town square (next to ice cream cafes!). Alaior has a weekly market plus an evening market (weds june-sept ) with Artisan goods, jewellery , other handicrafts and small boutiques.

Menorca Tips

There is a late night bus to return from Alaior's evening market. Alaior is home to the Pons Quintana shoe factory shop. A brand relatively unknown in the UK because most of its high quality leather shoes are exported to France and Germany. The shop offers reduced prices on beautiful high quality shoes and leather goods.

Mahon ( Mao or Maó )

Mahon has a great mediterranean charm around the centre and harbour. Busy pavement Cafes and Bars, superb fruit and fish markets and all enclosed in a maze of narrow streets with architecture and many reminders of it's Georgian past. In addition to the traditional the town offers a myriad of stylish shops and bars. Along the whole length of the harbour quayside (Moll de Llevant) there is an electic collection of Cafes, Bars and Restaurants for all pockets and styles. A spectacular setting above the huge natural harbour with ships and boats of every shape and sizes.

Cala En Porter Beach

Rated as one of, if not the best resort beaches on Menorca, especially for smaller children due it's perfect sands, incredibly gently sloping shallows, falling into crystal clear turquoise waters. And while this makes it very popular for children the beach is big enough for those who prefer to avoid the little ones to find their ideal spots too! The beach can be reached on foot via steps, by car with free car parking under shade or you can walk down beach road from the centre on pavement (suitable for buggies) Wheel chair users have their own toilet and wheelcair access to the sea with assistance. A 'ting ting' train can return you back to the resort or Taxi ( 5-7 Eur ) At the beach front their are public toilets and a red cross/lifeguards post. There is a few beachside Cafe bars and basic restaurants along the beachside promenade. Some might complain about the steps to get back up from the beach, but they like everyone else adore the beach bay views from below and above.  Plenty of pausing areas.
